Trainers With Winning Grand National Records

The Grand National has proved to be a race where certain trainers have had continued success.

These trainers know what is required to win the Grand National. This could be their year all over again! We will pay special attention to their runners.

Willie Mullins Runners

Willie Mullins won his second Grand National last year when I Am Maximus powered home to win as the 7/1 joint favourite. Mullins first won the Grand National in 2005 with Hedgehunter who, but for falling at the last in 2004, could have also been placed on two further occasions. Mullins has had 59 runners in the race with two winners and eight placed horses. Willie looks to have a powerful string heading to the 2025 race with last year's winner I Am Maximus, strongly fancied again. Amongst other Mullins' runners taking part are Cheltenham Festival placed, Meetingofthewaters and the in-form Nick Rockett, who has won two big races already this season.

Gordon Elliott Runners

Gordon Elliott won the Grand National with his first runner, Silver Birch, in 2007 and went close again in 2017 with runner-up Cause Of Causes. Elliott ended an eleven-year wait when Grand National legend Tiger Roll won the Grand National in 2018 and was then victorious again the following year. The Elliott team is smaller than usual in 2025 with Three Card Brag the main hope for Cullentra House stables. Elliott is also represented by the dashing grey Coko Beach, former Grade One winner Conflated and another two greys Fil Dor and Duffle Coat.

Henry De Bromhead Runners

De Bromhead won the Grand National three years ago with Minella Times. Minella Indo went close for the stable last year when finishing third to I Am Maximus. Former Gold Cup winner Minella Indo is back to try again and will be ridden by Rachael Blackmore. De Bromhead also saddles Senior Chief who won a handicap chase at Cheltenham earlier this season.

Paul Nicholls Runners

Nicholls won the Grand National in 2012 with Neptune Collonges and the former Champion Trainer is strongly represented numerically this year with five runners. Former King George winner Bravemansgame is the star turn but Nicholls also saddles Coral Gold Cup winner Kandoo Kid, Ascot specialist Threeunderthrufive, former Cheltenham Festival winner Stay Away Fay and Hitman, who is owned by a partnership that includes Sir Alex Ferguson.

Many other former Grand National winning trainers also have runners in 2025:

  • Jonjo O'Neill (Monbeg Genius)
  • Nigel Twiston-Davies (Beauport and Broadway Boy)
  • Venetia Williams (Royalle Pagaille)
